Our friendly group of volunteers meet at
Pontygwaith Nature Reserve most Tuesday afternoons (timings of these events often vary due to seasonality and weather so make sure you check out our Volunteer Group on Facebook for specific details about our volunteer events). These events are aimed around reclaiming the bracken swamped area for use by the local communities as a nature reserve, orchard and area for more general outdoors recreation.
Our mission started in March 2013 with a litter pick and has grown to include tasks like large scale vegetation clearance, tree planting and maintenance, dry-stone walling, wildflower seed spreading and habitat installation. We can see significant progress, both from the results of the annual ecological surveys between 2013 and 2017 and more simply the visual changes brought about by the completed work.
To see what our volunteers have achieved at the reserve check out our videosA Year of change: Pontygwaith Nature Reserve and Transformation of Pontygwaith Nature Reserve.
